First, identify materials in your home or building that may contain asbestos. Common asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) include insulation, popcorn ceilings, vinyl floor tiles, roofing materials, and certain textured paints.

Carefully collect a small sample of the suspect material for testing. Use a utility knife or other appropriate tool to cut a small piece of the material for analysis. Place the sample in a clean, airtight container or bag, and label it clearly with the location and description of the material.

The laboratory will analyze the samples using microscopy techniques to determine the presence and concentration of asbestos fibers. Polarized light microscopy (PLM) is a commonly used method for asbestos identification. The analysis will also determine the type of asbestos present (e.g., chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite).

Once the analysis is complete, we will provide a NESHAP Survey/Report detailing the results of the asbestos testing. The report will indicate whether asbestos fibers were detected in the sample, the type of asbestos identified, and the concentration of asbestos fibers present, if applicable. Depending on the findings, you may need to take further action, such as asbestos abatement or removal, particularly if the materials are damaged or deteriorating.
